Building Innovation and Design Centre

The new Building Innovation and Design Centre will support the growth of existing trades training and create space to offer additional courses on new technologies and works practices. The project will provide current and future TAFE students fit for purpose training and support facilities.

During the 2022 Victorian election, Government committed $5 million to deliver the Building Innovation and Design Centre (BIDC) as part a broader $50 million TAFE Clean Energy Fund. The TAFE Clean Energy Fund will help drive Victoria’s clean energy future and net zero emissions by 2050 through projects that promote training for an expanded clean economy workforce. It aligns capital projects with the energy components of the Clean Economy Workforce Strategy, which identifies new technologies and work practices requiring additional workers, the upskilling requirements of existing workforces and the creation of new roles.

The Building Innovation and Design Centre will be co-located with Deakin University and complement existing facilities on the site. This project will assist in addressing current capacity constraints and allow additional course delivery relating to new technologies and work practices in line with the Clean Economy Workforce Strategy.

What the new facility will deliver

The Building Innovation and Design Centre will provide the campus with a new automotive training workshop facility along with additional teaching spaces for automotive, building and construction, horticulture and electrotechnology. The facilities will support effective delivery of integrated education and significantly enhance the Sherwood Park campus experience.

It will become the main entry building on the campus with a brand-new reception area, staff offices and student support and leisure spaces. The facility will be placed to complement existing buildings on the site, connecting seamlessly into the campus environment. Classrooms within the facility can also be opened up for use as part of industry events or conferences.

The project will also deliver a new main carpark containing 58 parking spaces and two dedicated bus drop off locations for those attending campus onboard coaches.
