This course provides individuals with skills and knowledge required to work as an agronomist in the agriculture or horticulture industries. Students will enhance their knowledge of managing the land, sustainability and risk along with business practices and technology.
You will learn a range of agronomy skills involving crops, soil, plant health, pest and disease control and pasture.
You will also gain knowledge around budgeting, financial reporting, risk management and the use of agricultural technologies.
During this course you will participate in twelve, seven-hour face to face workshops and weekly four-hour evening classes via a virtual classroom. There is also an expectation that students will undertake additional study activities and complete assessments for a minimum of 8 hours per week using learning resources on SWTAFE Online.

Graduates of the Diploma of Applied Agronomy can pursue various roles, including:
agronomist, farm manager or agricultural technician.

Students are required to have industry experience on farms or as service provider. You must already be working in agriculture or have a passion for agronomy with at least two years’ experience or relevant qualifications.
To be eligible for this qualification you must successfully complete 12 units: 7 core and 5 elective units.

This course involves accredited units. You will be required to complete assessment tasks to demonstrate your underpinning knowledge, skills and attributes to meet the course outcomes. A combination of written, oral and practical assessment strategies will be used in either a classroom, online or workplace environment.
Where units require demonstration of skills in a workplace environment, you will have the opportunity to do this either in your own workplace (where appropriate), through a practical placement, or by using one of the Institute's simulated workshops/classrooms. Detailed information about the types, conduct and dates of assessments will be provided in advance. You will also be provided with information about the opportunity for reassessment and appeal.
