If you’re seeking a career in carpentry and want to learn your skills from industry experts, SWTAFE’s Building and Construction pre-apprenticeship provides an ideal starting place.
The course will develop your ‘hand skills’ to an acceptable industry standard. Students will acquire these skills by participating in building projects. Students will construct a full size domestic house or similar structure from ground to completion. Graduates may pursue apprenticeships and traineeships in the building industry.
This course will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills to prepare you for work or further study within the building and construction industry. Our course is based around building a 'real-life' house from start to finish which will give you a sound knowledge to kick off your career in the building industry.

This course involves accredited units. You will be required to complete assessment tasks to demonstrate your underpinning knowledge, skills and attributes to meet the course outcomes. A combination of written, oral and practical assessment strategies will be used.
Where units require demonstration of skills in a workplace environment, you will have the opportunity to do this by using one of the Institute's simulated workshops/classrooms. Detailed information about the types, conduct and dates of assessments will be provided in advance. You will also be provided with information about the opportunity for reassessment and appeal.
